Uncle Ed's Rule of Managerial Perception.
You always think the boss is a son of a bitch until you're the boss. Uncle Ed's Rule of Thumb: Never use your thumb for a rule. You'll either hit it with a hammer or get a splinter in it.
Underwood's Distinction.
The extent to which a service organization has become a bureaucracy is measured by the degree to which useless work has driven out useful work. In pure bureaucracy all work is useless and tends only to perpetuate the bureaucracy. In pure service all work is useful, altruistic, and of greater ultimate value than the organization itself.
Upward-Mobility Rule
Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.
