A shady entrepreneur had made a fortune by wheeling and dealing but had never had a formal education. Some of his envious colleagues asked him how he had managed it.

'1 just follow a few simple rules,' he said. 'For instance, I buy goods at £500 and sell them for £2,000 - and I'm quite happy with 3 per cent profit."
