What A Day

The managing director of a large engineering company which had a number of factories in the Midlands decided to pay a surprise visit to the Wolverhampton branch. The local staff were caught on the hop but managed to lay on a tour of inspection which seemed to pass off satisfactorily. As the big boss was preparing to leave, news arrived from the factory floor that a lifting crane had collapsed and demolished several machines and a retaining wall, as well as injuring several workmen. Taking his leave of the chief, the, factory manager said cheerfully, 'What a day, sir! Dreadful, dreadful! First you, and then the accident!'
