MANAGER: 'Can I count on your support in my application for the post of managing director?'

ASSISTANT: 'I'm sorry but I've already promised to support Blenkinson's application.'

MANAGER: 'Ah, but promising and doing are two different things!'

ASSISTANT: 'In that case, I'll be happy to give you my promise, sir.'
